Is Funbox Bowie Worth It for Families? Our Real Experience at the Giant Inflatable Park

When Funbox Bowie started popping up on my Instagram timeline, I knew we had to stop by because it immediately caught our attention. We had been to the outdoor FunBox when it came to Bethesda I believe in 2024 and it was a great time. So to hear that an indoor one was coming was a highlight for us.

But as parents, the real question isn’t always just “does it look fun?”, it’s whether an outing like this actually works for your family in reality especially depending on how many kids you have or the amount of energy you have that day. After visiting with our kids, here’s our honest experience and whether I’d recommend it.

The Setup

Their sessions are timed and typically run about 90 minutes which I love because it sort of helps to balance the crowd where you do not have people staying endlessly and crowding the entire space all day. We visited during one of their promo of $4 tickets when they opened. Once your time starts, kids are free to move between different inflatable sections obstacle courses, bounce zones, and large slides.

Because the entire play area is essentially one giant inflatable environment, the energy is constant. Kids can move quickly from one activity to another without much pause, which is exciting for them but also means their pace stays high the entire time.

Going in, it helps to know that this isn’t the kind of outing where kids slowly ease into activities. The moment they enter, most of them immediately start running, jumping, and climbing.

The Reality Check

Energy Check (For Parents): High

I will hands down say this is a high-energy outing for both kids and parents. The environment is busy and active, and you’ll likely spend most of the time standing, watching, and keeping track of where everyone is moving inside the inflatable areas. As I always say, this also depends on the ages of your kids. If you have little ones, best believe you better pack some extra doses of energy with you. If you kids are older, then you can hang out in the sitting areas and chill while they play.

Prep required: Minimal

There isn’t much preparation needed beyond comfortable clothes and socks. They provide socks so that also helps. Since kids tend to run nonstop, it’s helpful to make sure they’ve eaten beforehand and are ready for a lot of movement. I think they also sell snacks etc if your kids do get hungry.

Ideal visit length:

The full session is around 90 minutes and is usually enough. Many kids start to slow down toward the end simply because bouncing and climbing for that long is physically tiring. The visit length will also depend on your kids ages and other factors. When we went, my kids were 9, 6 and 6. One of the twins got tired from jumping around after about 30minutes, the other twins kept going the entire time while the 9 year old was pretty much done after about 45 minutes.

Crowd level: Medium to High

Because Funbox operates in timed sessions, a lot of families enter the play area at the same time. Depending on the day and time slot, it can feel fairly busy with kids bouncing and moving through the inflatable sections at once. We went during their $4 promo days when they opened and it was super packed which of course says great things about FunBox but also something to put into your planning that if you are trying to avoid crowds, weekends are probably not going to be the best days to visit.

What Instagram does not show

Honestly, Instagram does paint a great picture of FunBox. It is an amazing space to visit if you have not already. One thing though is like with everything on Instagram, photos and videos tend to focus on the colorful slides and big bounce areas and those parts really are fun. What you don’t always see is how physically intense the experience can be.

Because everything is inflatable and connected, kids move constantly. There’s very little natural pause between activities, which means energy levels can ramp up quickly. It’s exciting, but it can also be a lot, especially if the space is crowded.

Kid Reality

For kids who love to bounce and climb, Funbox is extremely exciting. The giant slides and obstacle inflatables kept our kids moving almost the entire time.

The biggest challenge came toward the end of the session. After nearly an hour and a half of nonstop movement, the kids were clearly tired lol and that fun day exhaustion can make leaving a little harder, but that’s pretty typical after high energy play like this.

Is Funbox Bowie Worth Visiting?

Yes, its definitely worth visiting especially if you don’t mind a high-energy environment. It’s a good option when you want kids to burn off a lot of energy in a relatively short amount of time.

Where it may not be the best fit is if you’re looking for a calm outing or something more relaxed. This experience is designed around movement and stimulation.

Timing can also make a difference. Earlier sessions or less crowded times may be easier to manage than peak hours.

Final Parent Verdict

It’s definitely a yes for me especially if you kids 9 and under. Funbox does have a great space where kids can bounce, climb, and slide almost nonstop for 90 minutes.

For our kids and any other kids probably, it’s exciting and memorable. For parents, the key is to be fully prepared and know what kind of outing this is. It’s fun, but it’s definitely high energy.

If you’re deciding whether this fits your family right now, I hope this honest perspective helped.
